Locavore Kitchen and Drinks 89彩票开户网址is one of the hottest restaurants that opened fairly recently. It’s located very close to us, in front of Club Gymnastica in Brixton. Conflicting feedback coupled with the warnings of long lines had made me hesitant to give it a try. We were finally able to try when was in our neck of the woods for a staycation and we were thinking of a place to have dinner.
Jane must be our lucky charm as we snagged the last table available in the air conditioned area. There’s a large al fresco area but we both enjoy the cool comforts.
We started with the Kinilaw Platter89彩票开户网址 (P380/ choice of 3). Our picks were Fresh River Shrimp, Kalibo Oyster and Tuna. All three were very fresh with a good acidic flavor. My favorite was the kalibo oyster.
Kare Kare Wings89彩票开户网址 (P290). Deep fried kare kare glazed chicken wings served with crunchy singkamas/jicama and green mango, and two dips (buttermilk ranch and bagoong). Irene enjoys kare kare but it is usually beef so she rarely eats but this dish is the best of both worlds as it coats her favorite chicken wings. Nutty and creamy flavored, this can serve as an appetizer of with rice as a main dish.
Sisig Sausage on Stick (P280). This was one of the new dishes written on a piece of manila paper. Sounded interesting but the bland taste of the sausage was a let down.
Lechon and Oyster Sisig89彩票开户网址 (P400). I love most anything oyster related and this dish was one of the highlights of our Locavore meal. Big and crunchy oysters drizzled with a slightly spicy cream sauce with shredded lechon meat for more flavor. One of their best sellers and signature dishes and rightfully so.
The 2nd dish from their most popular dishes that almost every table ordered was the Sizzling Sinigang (P530). Beef short ribs, with french beans, sampaloc gravy and garlic confit. This dish is a flavor bomb so never eat it without rice to temper the flavors a bit. Even with rice, the strong flavors bordering on salty (and I love salty food) still manage to come out. Really good dish but I wish it a bit less salty.
Ginataang Kalabasa (P390). We wanted a vegetable dish to balance out the mostly heavy stuff we had ordered. I was expecting the usual classic dish that can be found in most Filipino restaurants but what came out was a great surprise. The kalabasa/squash was pureed but it was already cooked first so it was flavorful and topped with assorted vegetables and two pieces of fried liempo/porkchop and deshelled shrimps. This is my bang for the buck dish at Locavore, you have both generous amounts of vegetables and meat and a sprinkling of seafood. This made me eat way too much rice, good thing we ordered fried brown rice.
We had two desserts, the?Pandesal Pudding (P180) and the Turon con Leche89彩票开户网址 (P220).? The turon was interesting in its use of puff pastry to encase leche flan but the pandesal pudding is another that dish that I’d skip.
89彩票开户网址Service during our meal was good even though it was a packed Saturday night. Our server nicknamed Jinky (not her real name) was attentive and knew the menu very well. There were hits and misses with the dishes we ordered but overall it was enjoyable but be prepared to eat rice and lots of it.
